In 2015 the United Nations adopted an Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development to address a range of urgent global challenges. The agenda sets 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that provide a blueprint for a better and more sustainable future. We unequivocally endorse the SDGs and are working to help meet them. To underscore our support, our Management Board signed a “Self-commitment by the E.ON Group” in June 2018.
To promote transparency and comparability, more and more companies around the world are aligning their sustainability strategies to the SDGs. In 2018 we decided to do so too. Our sustainability strategy, which we defined in 2016, remains unchanged. Aligning it to the SDGs only affects how we present it and our accomplishment. Going forward, we intend to set new sustainability targets that demonstrate our contribution to the achievement of the SDGs.
Our core business has the biggest impact on goals 7, 11 and 13:
By expanding renewable energy and supporting our customers in their own production of clean electricity, we are contributing to a sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply. Our distribution grids are the platform connecting energy producers with consumers and play the key role in ensuring security of supply. We also offer assistance to economically disadvantaged customers – because energy should be equally available to all without interruption.
Through intelligent solutions, we help cities and communities to use energy sustainably. This encompass integrated solutions for efficient heating and cooling, low-carbon generation, and smart energy management. In addition, we offer e-mobility solutions such as public charging infrastructure.
As an energy company, we play a key role in climate protection. With our strategic focus on renewables, intelligent energy networks and innovative energy solutions, we have accepted this role and avoid the output of CO2 emissions. We are continuously reducing our own carbon footprint.
We protect the health and safety of our own employees and those of our partner companies. Furthermore, we take responsibility for ensuring that our products, such as solar panels and battery storage devices installed in private homes, are safe for our customers.
