E.ON has long scored well in leading sustainability ratings and rankings. In addition, our sustainability activities in individual countries and on a wider scale frequently receive outside recognition. Below are a number of ratings and rankings that are relevant to our company as a whole.
CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project) rated E.ON with a climate change A in terms of environmental reporting. The score is in the Leadership band and higher than the Europe regional average of C, and higher than the Renewable power generation sector average of B. This represents an acknowledgment by CDP of the quality, process and transparency of the data which E.ON publishes in the annual CDP climate change report. The reporting data provided by E.ON for this purpose was assessed independently. E.ON has published data on carbon emissions (CDP Carbon Response) annually since 2004.
CDP recognized E.ON for its actions and strategies to reduce emissions and manage climate risks in its value chain in the past reporting year. Over 8,000 companies in total were assessed by CDP and given a Supplier Engagement Rating, based on answers to selected questions about governance, targets, scope 3 emissions, and value chain engagement of their response to the CDP 2020 climate change questionnaire and their overall CDP climate change score. E.ON is among the top 7% of organizations assessed by CDP.
V.E, a Moody’s Affiliate, is a global provider of environmental, social and governance solutions serving the investor and issuer communities. E.ON reached in Sept. 2020 a total ESG value of 61 and is thus part of the so-called performance level "Advanced," which corresponds to the highest category. This represents E.ON in indexes that use V.E data.
Amsterdam-based Sustainalytics is a global leader in ESG and corporate governance research and ratings. It gives E.ON an overall ESG score of 81, which makes us a member of the leader group. Our relative position is 11 out of 192.
The latest rating by ESG research and rating agency ISS-oekom (formerly oekom research) gives E.ON a C+, an improvement from our last rating (C). ISS-oekom’s ratings range from D- to A+. Companies at or above a threshold of B- are among the leaders in their industry.
Based in New York City, MSCI ESG Research LLC is an independent provider of research-driven insights and tools for institutional investors, asset managers, advisors, governments and NGOs. Its ratings range from CCC to AAA. E.ON’s rating is AA.
FTSE Russell, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, rates, on a scale of 0 to 5, the ESG performance of more than 4,000 public companies worldwide. It gave E.ON an overall ESG score of 3.2, which is higher than the utilities sector average (2.5) and the multi-utilities subsector average (2.8).
Every two years Hamburg-based consulting firm Kirchhoff Consult and auditing and tax consultants Mazars publish the ‘Good Company Ranking’, a CSR ranking of the companies in Germany’s DAX 30 index. E.ON currently ranks sixth.
Each year the Energy Intelligence (EI) Group names the world’s Top 100 Green Utilities. In the 2020 ranking E.ON placed fourth. Carbon-free production in calendar year 2019 was taken into account.
Our commitment to a sustainable energy future has internationally been recognized once again: E.ON ranks among the top 10 of the world’s 50 most influential electric utilities companies in the newly published Electric Utilities Benchmark by the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA). The WBA is an independent, transparent body with a broad group of more than 130 allies that sees its role as a successful driver of change.
