Bedroom temperatures: hot nights in Turkey, cool nights in Germany

Whoever thought that things really hot up in Italian bedrooms is mistaken, at least when it comes to bedroom temperatures, because 34 percent of Italians like to sleep at 18 or 19 degrees Celsius. 18 degrees is also the bedroom temperature favored by most Germans, 22 percent to be precise.

The Turks, however, like it particularly hot. According to a study by E.ON and EMNID on living in Europe, a third of all Turks prefer to spend the night at room temperatures of 25 degrees or more.

That puts Turkish nights right at the top of the ranking, followed at some distance by Sweden and the Czech Republic, where a quarter of the population enjoy a good night's rest at 20 degrees. Really cold bedrooms at 15 degrees or less are favored by the British. As many as 18 percent prefer somewhat more arctic over summer-like temperatures. In Germany, too, people want their bedrooms to be very cold. 17 percent of Germans like to sleep at temperatures below 15 degrees.

Temperature trends in European living rooms are not unlike those in the bedrooms. Almost half (43 percent) of those surveyed in Turkey like a warm living room with temperatures of 25 degrees or more. The coolest living rooms can again be found in Italy where 26 percent said 18 or 19 degrees were fine.

These results are part of the ‘Living in Europe’ study, for which E.ON and Kantar EMNID questioned around 8,000 people in Germany, the UK, Italy, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Turkey and Hungary in December 2016.
