05/28/2019 Joint Press Release
Essen-based companies FAKT AG and E.ON are planning to create a European ecological, agricultural and economic center in Hungary. FAKT AG is planning a combination of agriculture, logistics and housing on an area of land equal in size to almost 500 football pitches. E.ON will develop, implement and operate the sustainable energy infrastructure for electricity, heating and cooling for this major project in the tri-border region between Hungary, Austria and Slovakia.
The landmark project focuses on greenhouse facilities for the year-round cultivation of peppers, tomatoes, aubergines and herbs. Europe's largest onshore fish farm and the industrial processing of the products, including cold stores and logistics centers, are further elements of the economic concept. In addition, a modern, family-friendly residential area with a kindergarten, primary school, shopping center, hotel and conference center will be built.
The guiding principle for the development of the 330-hectare site is sustainable management combined with an integrated material cycle. Energy supply plays an important role. E.ON is currently determining the overall requirements of the project and will supply the city of the future with CO2-neutral renewable energy and intelligent energy networks.
The total investment amounts to 1€ billion. Hungarian Minister of Agriculture István Nagy described the project at its presentation in Hungary as an “era change for agriculture”.
Hubert Schulte-Kemper, CEO of FAKT AG: “With this project, we want to set a standard for the sustainable integration of working and living in Europe. We increase the added value so that the people in the region benefit directly from it. To build a future-oriented energy supply, we have found E.ON as a partner who can develop a tailor-made energy solution on every scale.”
Alexander Fenzl, Country Head Germany at E.ON Business Solutions: “Customers and societies demand innovative, sustainable solutions that change the way we live and work today. We support our partner FAKT with sustainable, reliable and yet affordable holistic energy solutions that are a vital for creating the living and working spaces of the future.”
FAKT AG and E.ON have signed an energy partnership agreement. The aim of both companies is to develop and build sustainable projects in Germany and on an international level. The cooperation relates to energy solutions for large-scale projects initiated and implemented by FAKT AG. Ongoing projects already exist in Recklinghausen and Bergkamen. In addition to the design of the projects, the partnership also includes long-term supply contracts for electricity and gas, solutions for the integration of electromobility and the construction of plants for decentralized energy generation.
The FAKT Group focuses on project development – the core sectors are real estate, selected municipal infrastructure and capital market topics, as well as projects for environmentally friendly energy generation and efficient use of scarce resources.
