They are available around the clock to repair lines damaged by storms, snow and ice, procure electricity and gas or handle energy flows in grid control rooms: around 3,000 E.ON employees ensure a reliable supply of power and gas throughout Europe during the Christmas holidays.
In a message to the employees on duty over the holidays, E.ON board members Johannes Teyssen, Leonhard Birnbaum, Marc Spieker and Karsten Wildberger paid tribute to their efforts: "Thanks to your work millions of people in Europe can celebrate Christmas without worries. You help to bring festive food to the table, a gleam to children's eyes and cosy warmth to hold the winter night at bay."
E.ON operates more than one billion kilometres of power lines and gas pipelines across Germany, Sweden, large parts of Central Europe and Turkey. Around 400,000 decentralized plants generating renewable energy feed into these grids. E.ON is one of the most efficient network operators in Germany and Sweden.
Intelligent networks with dedicated and motivated employees are also indispensable for the new distributed, digital and renewable energy world. E.ON's energy networks not only allow customers to buy climate-friendly electricity but also to market their surplus green electricity which they have generated. E.ON offers its customers a wide range of innovative energy-related services – far more than just energy procurement and the chance to feed in their own power. These services include flexible demand management, virtual power plants, e-mobility and efficient energy storage.
