Mr. Christoph Schmitz, born on 26 October 1965 in Kevelaer, Germany, is a newspaper editor and union secretary.
Mr. Schmitz first worked since 1991 as editor and parliamentary correspondent for the Düsseldorf based newspaper Rheinische Post, covering economics and welfare policy. From 2001 to 2006, he was editor and reporter-in-chief at the capital office of BILD newspaper in Berlin, covering economic, financial and welfare policy. Subsequently he worked until 2009 as Head of the Media Department of the parliamentary group of the political party “Bündnis 90/Die Grünen” (Greens) in the German Bundestag. Then he was Head of the Media Department at the National Executive Board of ver.di union in Berlin, from 2015 Head of the Strategy Department and Secretary of the Federal Executive Board of ver.di. Since 2019 he is Member of the National Executive Board of ver.di and Director of the Federal Divisions for Financial Services, Utilities and Waste Management, Media, Arts and Industry, Telecommunications and IT.
Member of the Supervisory Board of E.ON SE since February 2020; term will end at the close of the Annual General Meeting in 2023.
