Situation

In order to respond to the rapidly changing conditions in the energy world, E.ON decided to divide company into two separate companies: One focusing on renewables, the grid and customer solutions, the other one on conventional power generation, gas and trading.

Our approach

ECON developed the strategy and business models for the set up of both companies. For the split of the former entity, all business activities were analyzed and assessed to which of the future companies they would be best suited. During the second stage, ECON defined the organizational structure and steering model for each of the two companies.

The result

One2two is one of the greatest success stories for ECON. The largest internal transformation program for E.ON could be realized successfully and within less than a year only through very close collaboration with the line organization and E.ON’s top management. Today, both E.ON and Uniper are two independent energy companies that shape the European energy landscape.

Personal takeaway

From my point of view, the most important personal insight in this project was never to get so involved in the details as to lose sight of the Group as a whole – a Group which boasts almost 60,000 employees and a multitude of business activities ranging from Siberia to Brazil and spanning everything from power generation to the end user business.
