Fynn, Visiting Consultant
Before Fynn finished his studies at the University of Cologne he completed an internship as Visiting Consultant at E.ON Inhouse Consulting.
How did you learn about E.ON Inhouse Consulting?
My first interaction with ECON was during a recruiting workshop at the University of Cologne. After an introduction to ECON, we solved a case study on customer journeys for the UK market. Afterwards, we had the opportunity to get to know ECON colleagues at an informal dinner. I was impressed by the projects, the consulting approach and the open and interesting personalities of the ECON colleagues.
What happened next?
The very next day after the workshop, I received a call from one of the consultants who provided me with personal feedback on the case study and then invited me to an interview. After sending off my application for an internship, I had another phone call with a consultant who provided me with tips for the upcoming Recruiting Day. After a period of intensive preparation, I was happy to receive an internship offer.
Tell us more about the project you supported during your internship.
Our project was aimed at developing and launching new solutions around the customer’s home - transcending energy commodity products. The ECON team consisted of 5 colleagues who all travelled to Munich, the headquarters of the German regional unit, to drive the project with the client’s organization. I was integrated as a fully-fledged team member and was expected to actively bring in my own ideas and arguments and to participate in client meetings. During the project, I worked closely with a Senior Project Consultant who assigned sub-modules to me and provided me with feedback and coaching to help me develop both personally and professionally. I always felt that I made an active contribution to the project and was able to drive my own topics.
How did you develop during your internship?
The internship was a great way to learn consulting skills. At the beginning of my internship, I exchanged expectations with my development leader and we discussed and set my personal development objectives. During the project, I had weekly feedback and coaching sessions with a Senior Project Consultant. This enabled me to experience a steep learning curve, especially with regard to my own personal development goals.
How was the atmosphere within the project team?
The great atmosphere within the project team was one of the highlights of my internship. As our project was located in Munich, we regularly enjoyed dinner together and fought it out over a game of table soccer which really built our team spirit. Outside the project team, there were a plenty of opportunities to get to know other ECON colleagues, e.g. at the monthly business breakfasts, Friday lunches or other events. I also joined other colleagues to participate at the “Düsseldorfer Brückenlauf” run over the famous Düsseldorf bridges.
