Tidal Stream Energy Power Plant
E.ON Climate & Renewables is developing one of the first commercial-scale tidal stream energy power plants worldwide with a capacity of 8 MW just off the west coast of Wales. That's enough power to supply 5,000 households with electricity. It would be the first time a significant amount of electricity produced by a tidal stream energy power plant could be fed into the electricity network.
The project expands our renewables portfolio and is part of a major initiative to stop climate change. About EUR8 billion will go to investment projects before 2011 to develop environmental methods of power production.
E.ON is the only company involved in producing both types of marine energy, with activities in both tidal stream and wave energy.
