Technology

to Change the Future

E.ON's new tidal stream energy power plant is also setting new technical standards.

Plant location: approximately 1 kilometer off the coast

Water depth: 50 m, meaning the turbines are far below the water surface at all times

Turbine dimensions: length 15 m, height of base approximately 10 m. The turbines get narrower toward the middle which accelerates the water's flow

Mounting: The individual turbines sit on the seabed secured by their own weight. The turbines are connected to each other by electrical cables.

Revolution speed: It averages 21 revolutions per minute. The relatively slow rotation of the turbines produces so little suction that no damage is caused to marine life on the seabed

Capacity: 8 MW
