innovate.on
The centerpiece of our R&D effort is our groupwide research initiative called innovate.on which we launched in 2006. Its purpose is to accelerate the commercial application of our R&D programs. The earlier a technology enters commercial operation, the faster we can benefit from its cost advantages.
From Carbon Capture to Offshore Wind Farms
The initiative focuses on six main areas:
- coal-fired generating units with a thermal efficiency of more than 50 percent
- carbon capture and storage technology (CSS)
- tidal energy
- offshore wind farms
- bio natural gas
- gas-fired heat pumps
The criteria for all innovate.on technologies are that they have the potential to make a significant, cost-effective reduction in carbon emissions and to play a substantial role in our generation mix.
