Many Companies, One Brand

E.ON is the result of the merger between the VEBA and VIAG companies in 2000. E.ON, a name taken from the Greek word aeon, has since become an international name with a high level of brand recognition.

E.ON’s primary focus is on its core activity energy: The former conglomerate has developed into the world’s leading privately-owned energy service provider. The E.ON brand was launched as part of a step-by-step strategy, parallel to the creation of new companies through the fusion of existing E.ON entities. Examples for these new companies are E.ON Bayern, E.ON Westfalen Weser or E.ON Finland.

An important part of the corporate integration process, which began in 2003, is the establishment of an increasingly uniform company image. In the summer of 2004, for example, Powergen was renamed E.ON UK, while Ruhrgas became E.ON Ruhrgas.

This was followed by the renaming of three more regional suppliers in Germany during the summer period of 2005. Avacon became E.ON Avacon, E.DIS became E.ON edis and EAM Energie was renamed E.ON Mitte.

The E.ON brand continues to expand internationally, as well. The distribution company of Thüga Italia, headquartered in Verona, Italy, is known as E.ON Vendita since July 1, 2005, the Swedish company Sydkraft is known as E.ON Sverige since September 16, 2005. And as of December 1, 2005, our american company LG&E Energy appears under the new name of E.ON U.S.

The most recent example of E.ON's single-brand strategy is E.ON Ruhrgas, which has been using the new corporate design since 21 June 2006.
