Energy for Environmental Protection

Environmental protection is an integral part of our vision to become the world's leading power and gas company and our commitment to corporate responsibility. With the knowledge that power and heat production is responsible for 26 percent of the world's man-made carbon emissions, our main environmental responsibility as an energy company is to take decisive action to help tackle climate change.
Climate-Policy Challenge
Incentive programs are the only real way to harness market forces to promote the use of climate-friendly technologies. We're convinced that incentives are the right approach and are actively involved in emissions trading and the expansion of renewables.
Reducing our Environmental Impact
We strive to continually improve our environmental performance by reducing the environmental impact of our operations. This involves not only cutting our carbon emissions but also our emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and particulates. One of our tasks in this area is to carefully evaluate, and adjust where necessary, the environmental performance of the facilities and subsidiaries we acquire.
Doing More to Understand and Protect Biodiversity
Maintaining biodiversity is an important part of our effort to preserve nature and species. We conduct field research and work with the scientific community in order to design and implement effective measures. Our efforts are helping to establish systematic biodiversity protection, particularly as it relates to the expansion of renewables.
