FA Cup: Athletic Climate Protection

Picture: Images of the biggest Cup Competition of English Football, the FA-Cup.
The FA Cup is the biggest cup competition in English football and the oldest football competition in the world. It is a fixed institution in Great Britain. Since 2007, E.ON UK has been working on making this football event more environmentally-friendly. Fans are being asked to reduce their own "Carbon Footyprint". Everybody taking part is making a promise to the environment. Carbon emissions can be easily reduced in a number of ways. Anything from organizing car pools to the stadium to fans watching the game together on one set instead of on a number of TVs at home.
That’s worth Double
E.ON UK is offering the keenest environmentalists attractive prizes for their commitment such as signed football shirts or tickets to the final. So far 2,784 tons of CO2 have been saved (status 2007). The aim is to offset the complete 45,000 tons of carbon emissions during the 2007/2008 tournament. This is the amount of CO2 that teams, spectators and fans produce during a FA Cup.
Based on the "Carbon Footyprint" campaign, E.ON UK wants to encourage millions of fans across the whole country to rethink their habits. Whether changing to energy saving bulbs or setting up car pools – the environment can be preserved through small changes in everyday life.
E.ON National FA Cup Schools Day
In April 2007 E.ON UK organized the first National FA Cup Schools Day for around 200,000 primary school pupils. The initiative carried the magic and the excitement of the FA Cup into the class room. Famous footballers visited schools for a day to talk to children about the history of the FA Cup and to share their own exciting experiences. Soccer player’s professional nutritionists put together special FA Cup school meals at lunchtime especially for the occasion. Children were able to apply for a training camp with FA Cup trainers and had the chance to lead the teams out at the final thanks to the E.ON mascot competition.
The enthusiasm for this extraordinary school day was enormous. We have already received a number of applications for the next National FA Cup Schools Day, which E.ON will now hold every year.
