Local Partnerships
At E.ON, energy and environmental education has a long-standing tradition. In the future, existing partnerships and initiatives related to energy and environmental education will increasingly be integrated into the groupwide program Energy for Children. A selection of these initiatives is presented below.
GribS and the Blazing Red Energy Truck
In cooperation with the Bavarian Ministry of Culture, E.ON Bayern, E.ON Wasserkraft and E.ON Energie are dedicated to improving the quality of education at Bavarian elementary schools. GribS – an elementary school initiative for the individual development of Bavarian students – was launched for this purpose. Instead of being limited to talented elementary school students, the program is also intended to benefit disadvantaged children and students with learning disabilities. GribS develops individual support concepts in the language, mathematics and science fields.
When the energy truck pulls into the school parking lot, children can look forward to an especially exciting subject. Third and fourth-grade students in Bavaria have the opportunity to benefit from a special lesson: a team of trained E.ON Bayern employees has been on the Energy Saving Tour for Children since 2007 and invite students to attend a 45-minute teaching unit in the truck. How can I use energy wisely, protect the environment, and save money too? In the energy truck, children can find the answers to these questions through entertaining activities. As energy saving detectives, they explore the secrets of energy by experimentation. The energy truck visited 40 elementary schools in 2007; 80 stops are planned for 2008.

E.ON UK Creates an Energy Experience
Once again, the 2007 "Crucial Crew" event by E.ON UK was a major success. E.ON UK hosts this event in one of its generating plants twice a year in order to educate children about everyday safety concerns. The Killingholme Power Station Educational Centre is split into 8 different rooms representing a variety of scenarios. These include the use of water and electricity as well as the hazards of playing with fire or on construction sites. Over 650 eleven-year-olds were the most recent enthusiastic participants. "Crucial Crew" is a childhood fantasy term describing a rescue squad. The objective is for children to see themselves as personally responsible for their safety and to teach them to look after themselves on a day-to-day basis.
E.ON U.S.: Energy you can Touch
E.ON U.S. is working on an energy experience program in conjunction with the Louisville Science Center. Some 550,000 families, children and students visit the largest science center in Kentucky each year. The goal is to educate children about energy-related topics ranging from energy production to the environment and safety aspects during a two-month exhibition with energy experiments.
Interactive Learning at E.ON Nordic
In 2007, E.ON Nordic entered into new cooperation agreements with partner schools as part of the Energy for Children initiative: "Lindängeskolan" in Malmö and "Söderhöjdens för- och grundskolor" in Järfälla. A partnership has been established with the "Kreativum" in Karlshamn – an educational experience center that promotes an interest in science among children. In a special E.ON room, up to 2,100 children will enjoy interactive energy-related learning. Project funding is EUR40,000 annually. E.ON Nordic will continue to expand Energy for Children in 2008; partnerships with two additional schools are planned over the short term.
