Projects around the Group

Setting a Good Example: Energy Experience at E.ON UK
The Energy Experience program at E.ON UK is currently the most highly developed and proven initiative of the Energy for Children project. Energy Experience is aimed at young people between the ages of five and 16. An interactive web portal provides teachers with multimedia teaching materials related to energy and the environment. Concrete examples help students explore a variety of energy touch points in their day-to-day lives. Realistic scenarios illustrate the impact of our everyday energy consumption decisions on the environment. Numerous E.ON employees have already committed to supporting the project: by the end of 2007, over 120 E.ON employees had gone into schools as volunteers to deliver interactive lessons as part of this program.
Positive Results
In 2007, approximately 316,000 students at over 65 percent of all secondary schools in Great Britain enjoyed the benefits of the program. And they learned a lot: in a survey, 65 percent of seven to eleven-year-olds and 50 percent of eleven to 14-year-olds indicated that they were much more involved in saving energy than they had been prior to their participation. Energy Experience was launched in November 2006 and has been continuously expanded ever since. Additions to the available resources are planned for 2008.
Energy you can Touch: UK Secondary Schools Conference
November 2007 marked the first national student conference as part of the Energy Experience program. Under the motto "Voice of a Generation", 10,000 schools were invited to send a delegation of students and teachers to the conference. Numerous E.ON employees answered questions from the eager students. The conference focused on key energy topics such as wind and nuclear energy and the use of limited resources. Workshops, fascinating presentations and lectures clearly sparked a lot of interest: student feedback was outstanding.
Energy for Children at E.ON Nordic
Integration and improving the quality of life are the main goals of the Energy for Children project at E.ON Nordic. However, the objective goes far beyond environmental education with the local partnerships also encompassing language development and promoting individual social skills. E.ON Nordic offers a comprehensive selection of educational materials, an online information portal (Curious about Energy), and support for the continuing education of teachers. The teaching materials provided by E.ON Nordic are in high demand: 44,000 schools requested brochures in 2007 alone.
Energy for Children at E.ON U.S.
E.ON U.S. is heavily involved in preparations for the further expansion of their Energy for Children initiative. Program development is underway in cooperation with partner schools. The first test run has already been launched in Kentucky. In order to meet national scientific teaching standards, E.ON U.S. is working closely with the National Energy Education and Development Project (NEED) as well as various educational institutions in Kentucky. Core program content includes energy efficiency and the safe use of electricity. In addition to educational materials, a website also offers a comprehensive selection of information related to energy efficiency for students and is used in 600 elementary schools to date.
Central and Eastern Europe: The Starting Shot for Energy for Children
Energy for children is also implemented at our locations in Central and Eastern Europe. Experiences from other companies in the group are currently being communicated, and financing is being put in place in order to advance the program. In December 2007, the first pilot project was successfully launched in Romania. With "Energia Kaland" (The Energy Experience), E.ON Hungaria in cooperation with E.ON Földgaz has launched a large educational initiative that is to encompass over 3,000 primary schools and 5,000 secondary schools. The aim of the program is to teach children aged 6 to 18 how to use energy properly. It also offers teaching material. The program content was put together in cooperation with the Hungarian Ministry for Education and educational experts. Further projects will launch in 2008.
