E.ON is admitted into the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the world’s leading index of its type, making E.ON stock even more attractive to investors who look for companies with a strong commitment to corporate responsibility.
E.ON decides on Wilhelmshaven, a port city in northwest Germany, as the site where it will build the world’s first coalfired power plant with a thermal efficiency of more than 50 percent. The plant, part of innovate.on, will have an installed capacity of 500 megawatts, cost about EUR1 billion to build, and enter service in 2014. Key to the plant’s success are materials that can withstand steam temperatures of 700 degrees Centigrade (about 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit).
