The Supervisory Board of Düsseldorf-based E.ON AG appointed Dr. Johannes Teyssen (44) to E.ON AG's Board of Management effective January 1, 2004. Dr. Teyssen retains his current position as Chairman of E.ON Energie AG's Board of Management. On E.ON AG's Board of Management, he is responsible for the downstream business, which includes electric and gas trading, distribution, and marketing operations across all the E.ON Group's markets.
E.ON AG Corporate Center plots and steers E.ON's strategic course as an international energy group since January 1, 2004. A major group company manages and has earnings responsibility for E.ON's operations in each of the five target markets. Ruhrgas is responsible for E.ON's pan-European gas business, E.ON Energie for Central Europe, Powergen for the U.K., Sydkraft for the Nordic region, and LG&E for the Midwestern U.S. Under this structure, Sydkraft (which in the past reported to E.ON Energie) and LG&E (which in the past reported to Powergen) will be managed directly by E.ON AG.
Alongside Powergen becomes the sole owner of Midlands Electricity in January 2004. With 4.8 million connected customers, E.ON is now the second-largest UK electric distributor.
