On September 1, Schleswag, a regional utility, merges with two gas companies, Hein Gas and Hansegas, to forge E.ON Hanse. Headquartered in Quickborn, the new entity has 3,200 employees, serves approximately 1.5 million customers, and generated pro-forma sales of 2.2 billion euros in 2002. Munich-based E.ON Energie has a 74-percent interest in E.ON Hanse.
