Pre-Combustion-Capture

In the USA, E.ON is one of twelve industrial partners in the worldwide FutureGen initiative, which is pursuing the so-called "Pre-Combustion" process. With an investment by E.ON of about $25 million (€19.5 million) FutureGen is constructing a coal gasification power plant (IGCC) with CO2 capture and storage prior to combustion. Mattoon, in the US State of Illinois, has been chosen as the location for the first large-scale and almost CO2-free coal-fired power plant. Operation is scheduled to begin in 2012. The plant will store at least one million tons of CO2 in deep saline aquifers.

E.ON Energie is a partner in the German project COORIVA that focuses on the development of an optimized process integration concept and maximizing the availability of the total plant.
