Oxyfuel-Process
A third pathway to carbon capture is "Oxyfuel Combustion", which involves burning of coal or gas in oxygen rather than air. The benefits are to produce a more concentrated stream of CO2 in the flue gas which is easier and less costly to capture. E.ON UK has a combustion test facility which is already demonstrating oxyfuel firing technology and is collaborating with other industrial partners to demonstrate large-scale oxyfuel burners. E.ON Energie is involved in the highest profile German oxyfuel project together with other German utilities and universities. The Schwarzepumpe oxyfuel pilot plant is available for that project. In addition E.ON Energie is already involved in the development of the second generation of oxyfuel processes (OxyCOAL AC Project).
