Storage
Captured CO2 will be stored in, amongst other places, geological formations, so-called aquifers and in deep-lying, porous layers of stone. The possibilities of underground storage of CO2 in the vicinity of our power plants are currently under study.
CO2 transport and storage is a prerequisite for all capture options and in this field there are many technical issues to be resolved. E.ON is involved in the most important current European project in this area: CO2Sink (storage site near Berlin, saline aquifer).
E.ON is also represented on the Advisory Council of the European Technology Platform for Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plants.
