innovate.on
With the start of the "innovate.on" technology initiative E.ON is actively moving toward this goal. This initiative focuses on the operational implementation of research results and their profitable development into our energy supply systems. E.ON believes that two areas, i.e. fossile fuel generation and renewable energies could have a large contribution.
Key current technologies are related to the energy efficiency in fossil fuel-fired power plants, CO2 capture and storage and the increasing use of renewable energies. For sustainable generation E.ON is focussed on offshore wind energy systems and their integration into the power grid, along with the increased feeding of biogas of natural gas quality into the gas grid. To achieve these goals, we will invest in so-called "lighthouse" projects, in order to make the transition to commercial utilisation. On the basis of our experience in research and development, these projects have been selected from more than 400 projects that E.ON undertakes each year.
This initiative has resulted in promising technologies and in the prospect of a safe, environmentally friendly, and profitable energy supply. The construction of demonstration projects, such as the most efficient coal power plant in the world with an efficiency of over 50 percent, are milestones in our wide-ranging commitment to these goals.
