Nuclear Power
In many countries, nuclear power represents a substantial component in the energy mix and will continue to do so in the future. A number of countries, up to now opposed to nuclear power, have now rethought their position on the matter and have launched plans for a new generation of nuclear power plants. The U.K. government has decided to launch a major program to build new nuclear capacity. Around the world, 34 nuclear power stations are under construction, with many more in various stages of planning.
Nuclear power is an important part of E.ON’s energy mix, accounting for nearly one third of the electricity we produced in 2007. With availability factors of over 90 percent, our nuclear power stations are among the most reliable and productive. In a 2007 generating capacity ranking of the 439 operating nuclear power plants worldwide, Brokdorf, Isar 2 and Grohnde occupied places two, three and seven respectively.
