Our Strategy for Community Involvement

We recognize that our success as a company is directly linked to the well-being of the regions and communities in which we operate. We aim to be a trustworthy and dedicated partner to the people in the places where we work and live. This is why Community Involvement (CI) is a fundamental core value of our corporate culture and a key element of our understanding of what being a responsible company entails.

Our CI strategy is closely linked to our Corporate Responsibility (CR) Strategy and corporate strategy. When implementing projects and initiatives, we take the needs of various local actors into account. Dialog with our stakeholders is the cornerstone of our involvement in the community. It also forms a continual guidance mechanism for our CR Strategy. In our Performance Report 2010, we detail our progress in the area of community involvement.

Using Our Expertise for the Benefit of the Community

As one of the world's leading energy companies, our goal is to draw on all our expertise in the generation and efficient use of energy for the benefit of the community. The strategic focus of our community involvement is therefore on programs that address energy needs, climate protection and education concerning energy and the environment.

Active Involvement in the Community
"In all the countries where we operate, we want the broader public to see us as a socially active corporation. This is why we continue to support our units in boosting employee awareness of the importance of volunteering in their communities."
Regine Stachelhaus, Member of the Executive Board of E.ON AG
Organization of Group-wide Community Involvement

At E.ON, our CI strategy is centrally led by our Group Management and then implemented at local level by our units, who take regional circumstances into account. Experiences and best practices are regularly exchanged throughout the Group. When new CI themes emerge, such as the "European Year of Volunteering 2011", we address them together in international virtual working groups.

Long-Term Partnerships and Employee Involvement

As a matter of principle, we seek long-term cooperation with our partners in community projects in the countries where we operate. For example, we have supported facilities such as "HOMe - Hospice without Walls" for many years with our "RestCent" (Donate your Pennies) campaign. We invest in young people learning about energy and the environment, and get our employees actively involved if possible. In addition to corporate giving, we are also involved in disaster relief.
