E.ON Energie discusses the eastern European energy market with AIESEC students.

It was a high-class event: the international elite university St. Gallen was the venue for a meeting between representatives from E.ON AG and AIESEC (Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales) students. They discussed "doing business in eastern Europe".
A hot topic for E.ON Energie, especially considering that eastern Europe is a core region for the Group.

AIESEC is the world’s largest association of business administration students.  It is represented in more than 90 countries around the world and at 60 universities in Germany alone. AIESEC sees itself as a network of tomorrow’s elite, who are already establishing contacts to top companies during their studies. This includes contacts to E.ON Energie. The energy provider has been the official partner and national sponsor of AIESEC Germany since last year and advises the AIESEC executive committee.

In-depth discussions with students

Jan Kurrelvink from the Eastern European Strategy and Portfolio Optimization unit at E.ON Energie, discussed the central and eastern European business presence of E.ON Energie in great depth with about 15 students. "To start with I explained our activities along the value chain in the electricity business in this region," explained Kurrelvink. Students drafted their own portfolio analyses of the energy group’s eastern European activities. Kurrelvink: "The group was very sharp and was quick to analyze our strengths, but also recognized the challenges E.ON is facing in these markets. Not that this was news to us, but still it was pretty impressive to see how quickly students drew the right conclusions." These findings included that E.ON Energie is very well positioned in distribution and retail in eastern Europe, but is less significant in generation.

Advantages for both sides

The meeting with AIESEC was a great success for all parties. Students were able to gain an insight into Europe’s largest privately-held energy company, while E.ON Energie was able to present itself as a forward-looking Group to young, excellently educated students. Kurrelvink was especially taken by the group’s international composition: "I really enjoyed working on such a global issue as energy supply with people from across Europe. After we had finished we were all sure that these young people has a bright future ahead of them."
