E.ON's energy and financial terms.
On February 19, 1999, the European Union introduced the Electricity Industry and Organization Bill (ELWOG). This marked the start of the process for creating a consistent and liberalized electricity market in the EU. National barriers were removed and the network was opened up for every provider. "Unbundling" is also part of liberalization, as is separating the operating areas of generation, transport and distribution both in company structure and administrative handling as well as the transparent agreement of wheeling charges.
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is natural gas converted to a liquid state by pressure and severe cooling (minus 162 degrees Celsius, minus 260 degrees Fahrenheit), which reduces its volume by a factor of 600. LNG is transported in tanker vessels to terminals where it is returned to a gaseous state. LNG is playing an increasingly important role in international gas supply.
The relationship of power supply to the time of occurrence. Illustrates the varying magnitude of the load during the period covered. Load is affected by factors such as time of day, weather, industrial production schedules, and residential use patterns. System control centers use historical load curves as a starting point for their calculations. Knowing how much electricity was consumed on New Year's Day for the last ten years gives control center operators a fairly good idea of how much will be consumed on the next New Year's Day, enabling them to schedule the necessary generating resources.
