Our Business: U.K. |
In the U.K. our focus is on wind, both onshore and offshore, biomass and marine R&D. We have 18 operational onshore and three offshore wind farms. In 2007 we completed construction on one of the U.K.'s largest dedicated biomass power stations, the award winning Steven's Croft in Lockerbie. Robin Rigg, our third and one of the largest offshore wind farms in the UK came into operation in 2010 and is located in the Solway Firth.
We're partners in the London Array Offshore wind farm, which when fully completed will be the world's largest offshore wind farm. We are also looking to develop Humber Gateway (219 MW), and are in the early stages of developing Rampion offshore wind farm (650 MW), off the south coast of the UK as part of the Crown Estate's Round 3 licensing program.
Our onshore business has a sizeable pipeline of projects being developed which will significantly increase our presence in this area. And in the biomass arena we have started construction of our second biomass power station, Blackburn Meadows in Sheffield, and are exploring further opportunities across the U.K.
We are leading players in marine R&D and have purchased a 750 kw Pelamis P2 wave power machine. This device has already been through a successful year of progressive testing in UK waters and has been generating electricity into the national grid. In the second year of the testing program we are looking at optimization and the environmental impact of the machine.
