Ruhr Piano Festival

The Ruhr Piano Festival is the cultural flagship project of Initiativkreis Ruhr, a group of large German corporations promoting the development of the Ruhr area. Founding the "Initiativkreis Ruhrgebiet" also marked the beginning of the Ruhr Piano Festival. Motivated by the idea 'think big', the initial objective was to win over the most acclaimed pianists of our time for the festival. Since its inception the Ruhr Piano Festival has also successfully supported many young people. They are either invited to debut or can benefit from scholarships which are awarded every year.

Since 1988 the Ruhr Piano Festival has been able to attract the world's best pianists to the Ruhr area, create a program which is as varied as it is exciting, development many young musicians and present the ultimate in classical music to the Ruhr area and its people. A tremendous achievement.

The Ruhr Piano Festival is not publicly funded in any way and only operates based on private financial backing. It is only thanks to E.ON and the other members of Initiativkreis Ruhr that this truly unique festival can be staged. In 2008, Dr. Wulf Bernotat became moderator of the Initiativkreis Ruhr up to and including 2010.
