The E.ON Energy Mix:

It’s the Mixture that Makes it Work!

Today, we have an installed power plant capacity of 73 GW at our disposal. E.ON is one of the world's most geographically diversified power producers, with major asset positions in Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, Russia, the U.S., Italy, Spain, France and in the Benelux countries. In addition, we possess one of the most diverse and well-balanced generation portfolios in our sector. Of our total generation capacity at year-end 2009, 38 percent was gas- and oil-fired, 34 percent coal-fired, 15 percent nuclear, 7 percent hydro and 6 percent wind and other renewables such as solar energy and bio energy.

The energy mix of the future

E.ON aspires to an energy mix that promotes climate protection and that assures the provision of a safe energy supply from different energy sources with an optimal risk profile. By 2030, we want to have reduced our specific CO2 emissions by at least 50 percent compared with 1990. What’s more, this makes real financial sense, as this way we will be much less affected by the rising CO2 prices. For 2030, we aspire to an energy mix of which over half is CO2 free, by means of nuclear energy, coal with carbon capture and renewables. The other half will be CO2 reduced by means of highly efficient coal and gas power plants. We know that we have set ourselves a real challenge here.
