Helioenergy 1 & 2 -
Concentrated Solar Power
In November 2009, E.ON Climate & Renewables and Abengoa Solar, a Spanish company who is a world leader in concentrating solar power plants, formed a partnership and jointly own and operate two 50 MW Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants, Helioenergy 1 & 2. Helioenergy 1, the first of the two identical plants, started commercial operations on September 1, 2011. Helioenergy 2 is planned to be fully operational by the end of 2011. The 50:50 partnership has invested around 550 million Euros into the two plants, which are located in Ecija (Seville), Southern Spain, one of the best areas in Europe in terms of solar radiation.
Helioenergy 1 & 2 can produce enough power to supply 52,000 homes and avoid the emission equivalent to 63,000 tonnes of CO2.
The plants in Ecija will utilize Parabolic Trough technology.
