Exploration & Production
E.ON Exploration & Production (E&P) is a global unit and a growing segment in the E.ON Group.
This vital business segment is responsible for E.ON’s worldwide oil and gas exploration and production activities, and makes an important contribution in developing new resources to secure long-term energy supply, as well as to the Group’s financial results.
E.ON E&P has become an increasingly important player in the international energy industry since its launch in 2003, with interests in the North Sea, North Africa and Russia.
Our activities include acquiring exploration licenses, acting as operator in the development of assets and purchasing stakes in strategically important oil and gas fields.
Over the last ten years we have experienced significant growth, and we continue to search for strong development opportunities. In fact, in the 27th UK Government licensing round, we acquired the second highest number of exploration licenses of any company operating in the UK North Sea.
We place great importance in the successful relationships we have built up with our valued partners across the world and we are committed to being an outstanding corporate citizen. This includes living up to our responsibilities for the health and safety of all the people involved with our activities and our ongoing commitment to the environment.
Today we hold 30 licences in the UK and acting as operator for about one third of these licences. In Norway, E.ON E&P has equity interests in some 30 licences in the Norwegian Sea and the North Sea and is the operator for eight of these exploration licences.
We explore and develop resources in our three target regions: the North Sea, Russia and North Africa. Our largest production asset is Yuzhno Russko in Siberia, Russia.

Our Sustainable Strategy & Business model gives us a clear direction in achieving success and an emphasis on reaching our goals. Our sustainable growth is secured by focusing on selected target regions andensures we have a diversified portfolio. Of great importance is that our strategy and culture enables us to conduct business without causing harm to people or the environment. This is a priority for us and one on which we do not compromise.
We explore and develop resources in our key regions of the North Sea (UK and Norway), Russia and North Africa; focusing on both oil and gas resources.
As an E&P company, we are present throughout the whole upstream value chain, with a particularly active exploration focus.
We are also focusing on acting as an operator, which allows us to use state of the art development technologies. We are also an active and innovative partner in our non-operative fields.
We have the benefit of being nimble and fast to act on opportunities, but we also benefit from having the backing of one of the world’s largest investor-owned power and gas companies, which also gives us valuable access to international markets.
The E&P division is also an important part of the E.ON Group’s Cleaner & Better Energy strategy, which outlines how affordable energy, supply security and climate protection are compatible elements of a corporate strategy, even in tough economic times.
